Dear Parent/Carer,
A campaign has been launched to increase the number of children who regularly attend school in Torfaen. We are fully backing the new, #notinmissout #everydaycounts campaign which aims to celebrate the numerous benefits of going to school every day which include experiencing a great education, getting involved in fun activities and spending time with friends.
Between October 2019 and October 2022, average Primary school attendance in the borough fell by 3% from 95% to 92%. The minimum target attendance rate for primary and secondary schools in Torfaen is 95%. As a school, our attendance rate for the current school year is only 90% and I really need the support of all parents/carers to improve on this for the remainder of the year and for the future.
Children who regularly take time off school or go on holiday during term time risk falling behind in lessons and behind their peers. They also miss out on the chance to benefit from the vast array of resources and experiences that our school has to offer.
We will be launching a number of initiatives from next week and we will be sharing these with children in our assembly on Monday. We will be encouraging children to tell you all about what we are doing and of course we will be sharing more information with you as the weeks progress.
