Inspire, Achieve, Dream, Succeed

Welcome

Criw Cymraeg

Summer 2023

Criw Cymraeg

Who are we? Pwy rydyn ni?

We are the Criw Cymraeg of Greenmeadow Primary School.

There are currently 8 members from our Phase 2 and 3 classes.

We chose to join the Criw Cymraeg because we are very interested in improving the use of Welsh in our school and in the community.

Our aim is to improve the amount of Welsh used throughout our school and to increase the amount of Welsh displayed throughout the school!

What do we do? Beth rydyn ni’n wneud?

We meet every week to work through our action plan and the Campus Cymraeg targets.

We forward our own ideas and talk about the agendas for improving Welsh.

We have an active role in encouraging all pupils and staff in using everyday Welsh and promoting our welsh culture.

We share what we have been doing on our school website.

What have we done? Beth rydyn ni wedi wneud?

We have helped to achieve the Bronze Award in the Siarter Iaith Cymraeg Campus. This was a very important achievement for us and highlighted the excellent work that we have done so far.

Introduced a number of Welsh yard games around the school for pupils to use in their break and lunch times.

Introduced a reward system for speaking Welsh. We reward both children and staff for speaking Welsh in and out of the classroom by awarding them with a ‘Gwobr Jac’ for ‘Siaradwyr yr Wythnos’ and ‘Dosbarth yr Wythnos’.

During our fortnightly assembly a Welsh story is shared, the Welsh phrase is introduced, and a Welsh prayer is said.

Met with Mrs. Bastian, Mr. Bowen, and Miss. Rowe, and the Governing Body to discuss our ideas and offer suggestions for improvement

What’s next?  Beth sy’n nesa?

We never stop thinking of ways to improve here in the Criw Cymraeg.  Here are just some examples of activities and events that we will be working on this year.

We are going to re-introduce a reward system for speaking Welsh. We will reward both children and staff for speaking Welsh in and out of the classroom by awarding them with a gwobr for ‘Siaradwyr yr Wythnos’ and ‘Dosbarth yr Wythnos’.

We will continue to develop the use of Welsh in Greenmeadow and aim to achieve the Silver Award in the Siarter Iaith Cymraeg Campus.

We will monitor the use of Welsh in classrooms and around the school.

Helping to organise activities and events to celebrate Dydd Gŵyl Dewi in Greenmeadow.

We will work with cluster schools to create opportunities for sharing.

We will be creating a croeso sign- all children to contribute.

We will be encouraging the use of ICT and DCF throughout Welsh lessons.
